ANNUAL FUNDRAISER PRESS RELEASE
Puppy
Love, Inc. held its second annual successful Silent Auction and Fundraiser on September
22 at the Orr’s Island Schoolhouse.
More than 100 people attended
the event, traveling from New Jersey, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and
throughout Maine. Adoption alumni and friends of the rescue enjoyed a buffet
dinner, live music and the silent auction. Proceeds from the event totaled
nearly $7,000.
The money will help cover the
organization’s costs, including veterinary care for dogs which are rescued from
high-kill shelters in Louisiana and placed in new, loving homes in Maine and surrounding
areas.
Puppy Love President Laurie
Blain said the organization has an adoption fee of $375, but that does not
cover all the costs of treating dogs who become ill with conditions such as
parvovirus or heartworm infestation. A large dog treated for heartworm will
result in a vet bill of $800.
“Turning our back on a rescued
dog who has heartworm is unthinkable”, said Ms. Blain. “We treat all conditions
once they come to the safety of our rescue organization. Sadly, heartworm is a
preventable condition, and dogs who become infected are at risk of death when
they undergo treatment.”
This past year Puppy Love
treated 23 dogs for heartworm and 28 for parvovirus. Every dog receives
comprehensive vet care, including wellness exam, spay/neuter,
vaccinations, treatment for any identified acute medical issues, heartworm
testing and preventive medication, and a health certificate for the
transport to Maine. All treatment occurs in Louisiana prior to transporting the
dogs to forever homes in the northeast.

COOKBOOK AND PHOTO PROJECT
Hello Puppy Love Adopters, Supporters and Friends.
Well, its been nearly two years since our baby steps into our first adoptions in September, 2010. To date, we've placed over 280 very lucky pups with wonderful families. We hear from many of you, and are thrilled that our Louisiana "throw-away" dogs have brightened your days and filled your lives with unconditional love. It warms our hearts to hear such sweet stories and humorous anecdotes -- naughty behaviors, too :) Our rescue has given back to us so much pleasure, and its because of terrific people providing forever families to terrific dogs. Some days we cry, most days we laugh, and every day we are grateful that so many lives have been saved.
We are writing to you today to ask for updates --- stories and photos -- of your Puppy Love pups. They will be featured at our fundraiser event in September. Please email or mail any stories and/or photos you would like to share.
We are also requesting your favorite recipes to be included in a cookbook featuring Louisiana/New England regional foods. This will also include doggy treats. Our goal is to try to have it ready for the annual fundraiser, but certainly by the holiday season. Recipes for your favorite appetizer, salad, entree, side dishes, desserts and/or doggy treats are needed. Please include your name and city/town and state so we can publish it with the recipe. These can be emailed or mailed to us.
If you choose to mail your information, please send to Puppy Love, 9 Briar Ledge Lane, Bailey Island, ME 04003.

SAFE IN MAINE
What a spectacular group of dogs, each and everyone with a great personaity and good looks. Everyone was very happy to get some outside air and set their paws on solid ground for awhile. Right now they are contently hanging out, I imagine hashing over their great adventure. But what is always in the air at this time is the great anticipation of forever homes. With great confidence I can tell the adopters, there will be no disappointments. Sweet dreams for the pups tonight.
